Description

As the very first activity after Myanmar New Year Holidays, the first module of Federalism Academy has just started this morning. The Federalism Academy is jointly organized by YU Open Political Society, Centre for Development and Ethnic Studies and the Hanns Seidel Foundation - Myanmar.

The programme composed of three modules: the second module will be in May and the last one in October. Each module takes five days and most of the participants are university students. The programme is designed to get a better and profound knowledge on federalism, Myanmar historical debates on federalism and research method.

We hope it is a very good start and there will be a solid understanding of the topics after the programme.


The first edition of the Federalism Academy was organized in 2019 at the following locations and dates:

 

·        First module:        22 to 26 April 2019 in Yangon

·        Second module:   27 to 31 May 2019 in Nyaungshwe

·        Third module:      21 to 25 October 2019 in Hpa-An

·        Nationalism, pluralism, secession, and secular states

·        Federal issues in Myanmar’s current debate

·        Constitutions of Myanmar: Comparison of 1947 and 2008 Constitutions

·        Myanmar’s peace process

·        State constitutions

·        Session with the Tanintharyi Nationalities State Constitution Drafting Committee

·        Panel discussion on Myanmar’s peace process

·        Gender equality and women’s participation in Myanmar’s transition process

·        Governance in Shan State

·        Multinational federations

·        Visit to the Pa-O Self-Administered Zone

·        Distribution of competences in federal states

·        Fiscal federalism

·        Security issues

·        Second chambers in federal states

·        Session with the Karen National Union (KNU)

·        Social research
