The Centre for Development and Ethnic Studies (CDES) organizes the
Federalism Academy together with the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) and the
Yangon University Open Political Society (YUOPS). The main purpose of the fifteen-day
training program is to create and strengthen a network of young
people with common goals and visions on federalism, democracy and peace in
Myanmar by strengthening their skills and knowledge on the current political
debates. Since we see young people as tomorrow’s leaders, the program targets
university students between the ages of 18 and 25 who are highly motivated to
work on Myanmar’s transition towards a peaceful and democratic federal union.
The Federalism
Academy consists of three modules of five days each, which are
held during the university holidays in April, May and
October for the same group of approximately 25 participants. The three
modules consist of lectures, discussions, study trips, panel discussions, group
presentations, assigned readings and critical literature reflections, which offer
participants the opportunity to gain extensive knowledge about federalism,
democracy and peace in Myanmar. The modules are organized at different locations
to provide participants with exposure to different contexts and stakeholders.
Both national and international resource persons and practitioners share their
expertise in the program.
During the
program, participants:
·
Gain a clear understanding of the topics discussed and their relevance to Myanmar
·
Develop and strengthen skills such as writing and
critical thinking
· Expand their network by engaging with other participants and the resource persons
